Research Projects	In May 2003 within the TIMSS 2003 study in Serbia the Institute for Educational Research carried out field study using international tests in Mathematics and Sciences and questionnaires on a representative sample of 4500 primary school students of 8th grade, 700 teachers and 150 school principals. The study was preceded by a two-year work on the design and translation of measuring instruments, sample planning, data collecting and processing of the trial study. Final results of the base study will be processed at international level and available for the public by the end of 2004. Participation in this study makes provisions for gaining comprehensive insight into how successful the teaching of Mathematics and Sciences is in our schools and for comparing the quality of our education system with other countries. Also, it will be possible to gain insight into the effects of changes in our education system between the two cycles of investigations (the next TIMMS study will be conducted in 2007).
