Legislation review for incoming mobility in Montenegro

 

The Employment of Foreign Nationals Act

According to the Law on Employment and Work of Foreigners, foreigner has to obtain residence and work permit in order to sign an employment contract. Employment Office of Montenegro issues work permits on request of a foreigner who has permanent resident permit. If the foreigner has temporary resident permit, employer submits work permit request that includes a number of documents:

  • foreigner’s passport,
  • resident permit,
  • degree certificate,
  • medical certificate,
  • information on job position and its working conditions,
  • proof that employer is registered, and
  • justification of employment of foreigner).

Employment Office has 30 days to decide on work permit request. After the work permit is issued, employer has the obligation to sign a contract with foreigner within 15 days. The request for work permit extension has to be submitted at least 45 days before the date of expiring of current work permit.

Higher Education and Recognition of Academic Degrees

The recognition of foreign higher education qualifications is done by faculty competent for specific education area.
