REC Country Office Serbia and Montenegro (REC CO S&M) (http://www.recyu.org) is part of the Regional Environmental Centre for Central and Eastern Europe (REC) an independent, non-profit environmental organization of international character founded in 1990. by the Governments of United States of America, Hungary and European Union. REC. The Founding Chart signatories today are governments of 28 states, including Serbia and Montenegro.

REC CO S&M has extensive experience in facilitating communication among relevant stakeholders focused on providing technical assistance and designing strategic documents with a participatory approach to national governments

The following activities indicate REC’s experience in legislative issues and guidelines preparation:

  • Development of Environmental Legislation in Serbia and Montenegro site (http://www.yugolex.org.yu/) - This is the site of the project "Development of Environmental Legislation in the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (FRY)" - result of the co-operation between the governments of the Republic of Finland and the Federal Republic Yugoslavia.
  • EarthWire Serbia and Montenegro (ESM) service (http://www.earthwire.org/serbia). This is a free daily service that gives Internet users an overview of environmental news from Serbia and Montenegro. The WEB service is developed by UNEP GRID Arendal while REC CO S&M manages the daily maintenance and updating through reviewing the major on-line newspapers from the country for environment and sustainable development-related news stories. Relevant stories are linked to EarthWire Serbia & Montenegro. Relevant news and press releases from ministries, NGOs, research institutions and corporations are also linked or posted on the web pages.
  • Development of Environmental Legislation in Serbia and Montenegro (site address: http://www.yugolex.org.yu/) - This is the site of the project "Development of Environmental Legislation in the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (FRY)" - result of the co-operation between the governments of the Republic of Finland and the Federal Republic Yugoslavia.

The role of REC CO S&M includes the following activities: Mobility Legislation Review in Serbia and Montenegro, participation in project’s awareness campaign and results dissemination by organizing one local workshop in Belgrade

Two employees from the projects department and one employee from the accounting department will have the responsibility for local project activities and for the financial management respectively. The Director of the REC CO SCG will have the scientific responsibility for local project implementation. The REC itself is a network, while the Environmental Resource Centre, which is maintaining by the REC CO SCG represents the network of scientists and scientific organizations (http://www.erc.org.yu).

The role of REC is related to following activities:

  1. Mobility Legislation Review in Serbia and Montenegro
  2. Organization of one workshop in Belgrade, as part of the awareness campaign
